Introduce to the reading material:
The passage tells a story that students in a small village in China have to go on a ropeway to cross the river to school.
Learning Objectives:
1.Students can predict the main idea by reading the title and the picture,skim for the general idea and scan for details .
2.Students can see how good the writer makes the article brief and meaningful.
3.Students can talk about the main idea of the article.
4.Students will appreciate their own happy life by comparing that of the students in the small village.
Key and difficult point:
Students can retell why the students in the small village have to get to school by ropeway and connect the story with their own life.
Activities before the class:
Students read the new words by themselves to familiar with them. Teaching Procedures:
Step1 Warmer (2 minutes):
Free talk:
“How do you get to school?” “If there is a river between your home and school, how can you cross the river to school?”
(师问生答,创设情景,导入本文话题——过河上学。)
Step2 Pre-reading (2 minutes):
Students look at the picture in the story and read the title of the article to predict what the article is about.
(读文本中的图片和标题,引导学生预测文章内容,并请学生猜测为什么文中的学生只能乘溜索过河,激起阅读兴趣,为阅读做铺垫。)Step3 While-reading (30 minutes):
Fast-reading:
Students read the whole passage quickly to find the main idea.
(指导学生快速阅读来了解文章梗概。)
Detailed -reading:
Detailed reading of para.1:
Students read para.1 and focus on the reason why the students in the small village have to get to school by ropeway. They should answer the questions:
1.Is it easy or difficult for the small village students to get to school?
2.What is between their school and the village?
3.Is there a bridge?
4.Why there is no boat?
5.What is the only way for them to cross the river?
When students are reading,the teacher draw a stick figure on the blackboard to show the scene of the village,river,school and the ropeway. After the students answering the questions,ask them to try to tell the reason why the students in the small village have to get to school by ropeway with the help of the picture.
Detailed reading of para.2:
Students read para.2 and focus on the feeling of the students in the small village.Answer questions:
1.Is Liangliang afraid?
2.Does he like to go to school?Why or why not?
Detailed reading of para.3:
Students read para.2 and focus on the dream of the villagers. Answer questions:
1.The villager has a dream.What’s the dream?
2.Can their dream come true?What do you think?
Detailed reading of the whole passage:
Students read the whole passage again and they should fill in blanks to
focus on the adjectives and adverbs in the passage.
Step4 Post-reading (8 minutes):
Activity 1: An interview
Students do a pair work with their partners.Imagine one student was a reporter and the other was a stu
dent in the small village.They should ask and answer some questions about the way the small village students get to school. Some possible questions are below:
1.What’s your name?
2.How do you get to school?
3.Why do you get to school like that?
4.Are you afraid?
5.Do you like to go to school?Why or why not?
6.Do you dream to have a bridge?
7.Do you think your dream can come true?
……
(通过采访活动,学生对整篇文章进行梳理,体会文中学生艰难的求学路及其对学校生活的热爱,进而激起学生珍惜自己美好生活的情感。)
